6. There is a plan to collect feminist books and journals of the last decade for the re-building of the Baghdad University women’s studies library. This project is spearheaded by ‘Act Together’ (an organization founded by Haifa Zangana) and Women Living Under Muslim Laws (an internationally powerful and reputable NGO advocating for the rights of women in the Middle East). . If you would like to make a contribution towards this important project through donating books or journals on relevant feminist topics, please bring them to the Institute of Women‘s Studies and Gender Studies and leave them with Angela Fleury at Wilson Hall, New College, U of T, 20 Willcocks St. Room 2036. . Capoeira as Cultural Resistance To Globalization featuring the Canadian Premiere of the acclaimed documentary film: Joao Grande: Master of Capoeira Angola by Mari Travassos. . Capoeira is the Brazilian martial /dance/music art invented by African slaves brought to Brazil by the Portuguese. It has blossomed into a rich cultural tapestry in Brazilian life. Mari's film, ten years in the making, explores Capoeira's many dimensions through the life of grandmaster Joao Grande and his journey from rural Brazil to New York City.
