Book Launch for
Fledgling
By Octavia Butler
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 7pm
Innis Town Hall
2 Sussex Avenue
Admission: $5 - $12 sliding scale, available at TWB
Tickets available at the door.
Fledgling, Octavia Butler's first new novel in seven years, is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl whose alarmingly un-human needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: she is in fact a genetically modified, 53-year-old vampire. Fledgling is a captivating novel that tests the limits of “otherness” and questions what it means to be truly human.
Join us for an evening with Octavia Butler and Nalo Hopkinson as they converse about Octavia's new book and life.
Octavia Butler is the author of fourteen books, including the novels Kindred, Dawn, and Parable of the Sower, and one collection of short fiction, Bloodchild and Other Stories. Recipient of a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, the Hugo and Nebula Awards, a lifetime achievement award in writing from PEN, and numerous other literary awards, Ms. Butler is widely acclaimed for her lean prose, strong protagonists, and social observations that range from the distant past to the far future.
Nalo Hopkinson is an award-winning Canadian writer and editor. Her novels “Brown Girl in the Ring”, “Midnight Robber” and “Salt Roads” have received critical acclaim across North America . She resides in Toronto .
Wheelchair Accessible.
