1. Booklaunch for The Heiress VS the Establishment by Constance Backhouse and Madame Justice Nancy Backhouse. THURSDAY DECEMBER 2, 2004

Free admission, hot canapes will be served, all are welcome to attend, wheelchair accessible.

2. Dionne Brand has a NEW novel due to be released in January 2005.
Toronto Women's Bookstore is very pleased to be hosting the Toronto booklaunch of this wonderful book, entitled "What We All Long For" (Knopf Canada). Mark this date in your calendars! (if you don't have a 2005 daybook yet, we have a great selection!)

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
3. Maryem Tollar celebrates life with the CD launch of her second album, Book of Life.
Join Maryem and her all star band, some of Toronto's world music virtuosi, on Saturday December 18 Glenn Gould Studio, 250 Front Street West 8pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and are available through the box office at 416-205-5555. Special guests for this performance are Roy Styffe and Planet Alto as well as dancer Roula Said and the Roulettes. Maryem Tollar has something important to say and she uses her magnificent voice to say it. While that voice has been heard in many contexts, this is uniquely Maryem's own - her music, her view of the world, her Book of Life.

4. Cine-Jeudi at NFB
L'appetit d'Eve, a film about how the origins of life guide Fabienne Lips-Dumas in a quest for identity that takes her from the Burgess Shale to encounters with the greatest biologists and paleontologists of her time.

The screening will be held as a benefit for the December 6 Fund of Toronto, a non-profit organization. Canadians recognize December 6th as the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, as a day of remembrance and a day of action on violence against women who have died as a result of male violence.
